Both on stage and off, talented and dedicated people make possible Court Theatre’s mission to discover the power of classic theatre. In addition to employing part-time, full-time, and seasonal staff, Court also offers artistic and administrative internship programs for University of Chicago students. Court’s staff and guest artists are employed by the University of Chicago.

Assistant Box Office Manager

We hire part time freelance technicians and artisans on an ongoing basis depending on the specific needs of each production. Individuals with skills in any of the following areas are encouraged to send a resume and a letter of interest to Audio Technicians, Carpenters, Costume Fabricators, Hair and Wig Stylists, Electricians, Makeup Designers, Props Artisans, Run Crew, Scenic Painters, Stage Managers, Video Programmers, and Wardrobe Crew.

Court Theatre does not have a resident or repertory company of actors and is always looking for new talent for our stage. While auditions for specific productions throughout the season are by invitation only, Court Theatre holds general auditions each year.

General Auditions

Equity Auditions are held towards the beginning of each year in Chicago. Once Equity general audition dates are announced, you can either make an appointment in person at the Equity office or call the Chicago Equity audition hotline. Please take note that Court Theatre does not schedule appointments; all appointments are scheduled though the Equity office.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. If we are interested in seeing your work at a general audition, we will contact you directly. Non-Equity general auditions are typically held twice a year, and we usually receive more submissions than we have slots for; if it happens that you are not among the few selected, we encourage you to submit once again in four to six months.

Submissions for a Particular Production

If you are interested in a particular production please do let us know by submitting your headshot, résumé, and a letter of interest. Please specify the show and role you’re interested in, and post to the attention of Becca McCracken, Casting Director, and we will be happy to review and consider your request. You may send these by mail or electronically.

HOW TO SUBMIT: Please submit an electronic headshot and résumé to via email or mail a hard copy headshot and résumé to the attention of Becca McCracken, Court Theatre Casting, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. Chicago, IL 60637. No phone calls, please.

Court Theatre’s internship program offers a unique, experiential learning opportunity for undergraduate students at the University of Chicago. The program is designed to offer in-depth exposure to a professional theatre through both focused work experience and a curriculum designed to broaden their knowledge of the field as a whole.

Internships for this academic year have been filled, but we encourage you to check back for future postings.
