“What’s next, what’s the next ambition, where are we going? How do we break open what we have been doing and not just, frankly, imitate what we’ve done?”

Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director Charles Newell was featured in the Chicago Sun-Times to discuss his thirty-year tenure, his upcoming transition to Senior Artistic Consultant, and how his restless nature drives his work. Dive into the Sun-Times profile here and learn more about his upcoming change in roles.

The Office of the Provost at the University of Chicago is currently conducting a comprehensive search for Court Theatre’s next Artistic Director. Check out our blog, join our email newsletter, and follow our social channels to be the first to hear the exciting announcement!

As Senior Artistic Consultant, Charlie will direct the world premiere of Berlin, adapted by Mickle Maher and based on the graphic novel by Jason Lutes. Fascism is taking hold; revolutionaries are organizing; creatives are trying to capture the ineffable nature of their changing city; and – as everything falls apart – everyone is faced with a choice: abandon Berlin or fight to survive. An ever-shifting kaleidoscope of everyday people trying to navigate one of the most remarkable moments in history, Berlin speaks to our current moment, and our future, with undeniable urgency.

Individual tickets to Berlin will be on sale in August, but subscriptions including this production are available now! Subscriptions can be purchased online or by calling the Box Office at (773) 753-4472.

Don’t miss this exhilarating theatrical experience, in which we take Berlin literally from page to stage.
