Ten plays. One playwright. One director. One century. August Wilson’s American Century Cycle depicts a century of Black American life, with one play per decade from 1900 to 2000. The result is a nuanced, rich, poetic portrayal of Black life that elevates the quotidian to the epic; a historical record; and a reflection of the struggles and triumphs of characters who leap from page to stage.

Check out these resources for academics, enthusiasts, educators to support your understanding of August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, produced in its entirety at Court Theatre and directed by Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson.

This Content Collection can be used on its own, or alongside any of the Learning Guides within the Century Cycle.
