Court Theatre is Chicago’s destination for exceptional classic theatre. Named “the most consistently excellent theatre company in America” by the Wall Street Journal, Court endeavors to discover the power of classic theatre by rigorously exploring a wide range of dramatic texts, including African-American and musical works; by expanding the canon of classic theatre through initiatives such as the Barbara E. Franke Commissioning Program for New Classics; and by engaging audiences through open rehearsals, interactive symposia, enrichment activities and educational programs.

Our unique, intimate approach to classic theatre means that we rely upon the generous support of individuals and institutions in our community for a significant portion of our annual operating budget. In fact, ticket sales only fund 35% of our expenses each season.
