This glossary includes helpful vocabulary and allusions that will deepen your understanding of Two Trains Running.

WORD/PHRASEDEFINITION
Eminent Domain(n) The government’s right to seize private property and make it public property, provided the government pays the owner back for the value of the land or building. 
Gypping(v) Offensive slang term meaning to cheat or swindle; this word is in reference to the slur ‘gypsy’, an inaccurate word for the Romani people.  
Jackson(n) A town in Mississippi
Natchez(n) A town in Mississippi
Queen of Sheba(n) A biblical reference; the Queen of Sheba was an Arabian Queen known for bringing lavish gifts to King Solomon (a biblical Israelite king) and seducing him, and God later punished King Solomon for his focus on wealth and women instead of his Jewish faith
Sandal-Foot Woman(n) Old women, referring to the type of hosiery they may wear; sandal-foot hosiery have thicker or reinforced areas at the toe and heel for comfort
Squirrel Hill (n) A neighborhood of Pittsburgh
