COLIN K. BILLS is a Washington, DC, based Lighting and Set Designer. As a Company Member with Woolly Mammoth, he has lit over forty-five productions, including An Octoroon, Stupid Fucking Bird, The Convert, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety, A Bright New Boise, Oedipus el Rey, Clybourne Park, and Dead Man’s Cell Phone. He is a Conspirator with the devised theater company dog & pony dc, where he has collaborated in the writing and direction of Toast, A Killing Game, Beertown, Courage, and Punch… that’s the way we do it. He is an Artistic Associate and Production Manager with the Washington Revels, where he designs the scenery and lighting for the annual Christmas Production in celebration of the Winter Solstice. He is also an Associate Artist with the Olney Theater Center. His designs have been seen nationally and internationally at Asolo Rep, The Berkshire Theater Festival, Constellation Theatre Company, CENTERSTAGE, Contemporary American Theatre Festival, Dallas Theater Center, Everyman Theatre, Ford’s Theatre, Forum Theatre, Imagination Stage, Intiman Theatre, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Marin Theatre Company, Metro Stage, Olney Theatre Center, Opera Lafayette, Opera Royal Versailles, Portland Center Stage, Round House Theatre, The Smithsonian Institution, Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre, Synetic Theatre, Syracuse Stage, Theatre for the First Amendment, Theater J, Vermont’s Northern Stage, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, and the Wilma Theater. Mr. Bills has won three Helen Hayes Awards, for his designs of The Master and Margarita, Angels in America: Millennium Approaches, and Dead Man’s Cell Phone. He is a 2009 recipient of a Princess Grace Fellowship in Theater and was a TCG/NEA Career Development Grant Finalist. Mr. Bills has taught design at American University and as a visiting designer has worked with students at Georgetown University, Dartmouth College, George Washington University, and Loyola College of Baltimore. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College.
