Ron OJ Parson to Receive the League of Chicago Theatres’s Lifetime Achievement Award
Few artists have shaped Chicago theatre as profoundly as Ron OJ Parson. This fall, the League of Chicago Theatres will recognize his extraordinary body of work by presenting him with its 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Spotlight Gala.
As Resident Artist at Court Theatre, Ron is perhaps best known for his staging of August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, the magnificent ten play series that chronicles the Black experience through each decade of the 20th century. This winter, Ron will stage Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, completing the American Century Cycle and joining the pantheon of directors who have staged all ten plays at the same theatre—a monumental achievement.
Throughout his illustrious career, he has served as a mentor, an advocate, an esteemed collaborator, and a leader. Some of his notable recognitions include the Zelda Fichandler Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, recognition as the Chicago Tribune‘s Chicagoan of the Year for Theater, along with multiple Jeff Awards and nominations. He was celebrated at Court’s 2025 gala, and now, the celebrations will continue at the League of Chicago Theatres’s Spotlight Gala.
