Court Theatre is Headed to Berlin
Join us for a week of history, art, and culture in Berlin! Don’t miss the chance to spend a week with Court Theatre, immersed in one of Europe’s most compelling capitals, where centuries of history meet a fierce creative present, based at the historic Hotel de Rome—a former bank turned elegant hotel, ideally placed steps from Museum Island and the heart of old Berlin.

The week blends grand cultural institutions with intimate, human encounters: a walking tour uncovers the Mitte area’s rich history of social activism, while private visits with local cultural and creative leaders offer a rare, personal window into the city’s contemporary artistic life. Special exhibitions and curated museum visits reveal Berlin’s extraordinary collections, from antiquity to modern art, an evening at the Komische Oper Berlin brings the wit and spectacle of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld to life, as well as additional performances in the performing arts to choose from. Add in Berlin’s storied Cold War history, its layered architecture, its famously vibrant, eclectic street life, and celebrated food culture, our trip offers a rich, multifaceted cultural adventure in the German capital anchored by a stay in one of its most celebrated addresses. Our visit coincides with the tail end of Germany’s Unity Day celebrations, and toward the end of the week the city begins to glow as the Festival of Lights transforms landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and Berlin Cathedral into illuminated works of art, an ideal note on which to close out our stay.
Accompanying the group will be Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director Avery Willis Hoffman, Executive Director Angel Ysaguirre, and David Levin, the Alice H. and Stanley G. Harris Jr. Distinguished Service Professor of Theater and Performance Studies, Germanic Studies, Cinema and Media Studies, and the College at the University of Chicago. David Levin was the production dramaturg for Court’s 2025 award-winning production of Berlin.
The trip costs $8,500 per person, which includes a $1,000 contribution to Court Theatre. Included in the cost of the trip are a double room at Hotel de Rome, tickets to all performances and tours, and welcome and goodbye dinners. Space is extremely limited.
