Exciting news! Kierra Bunch and Martasia Jones, both of whom were in last season’s A Raisin in the Sun, were recognized at the Black Theatre Alliance Awards (BTAA).

Martasia Jones won Best Actress (Play) for her role as Beneatha Younger, and Kierra Bunch won Best Supporting Actress (Play) for her role as Ruth Younger. We would like to thank both Martasia and Kierra for bringing these vibrant characters to life on our stage, and we are thrilled their work is being celebrated.

We would also like to celebrate the work of the other nominees representing Court Theatre: Brian Keys (Best Actor – Play), Shanésia Davis (Best Actress – Play), and Maximo Grano De Oro (Best Lighting Design – Musical or Play), all of whom were nominated for their work on A Raisin in the Sun.

To quote McKinley Johnson, director of this year’s BTAA program: “This year’s BTAA reminded us why Black theatre continues to thrive — it tells our stories, celebrates our excellence, and inspires the next generation.”

Please join us in wishing a heartfelt congratulations to Martasia and Kierra, along with all the other honorees. We are proud to be a part of Chicago’s vibrant theatre community, and we can’t wait for another exciting season.
