With a bit of planning, you have the opportunity to make a gift that will have a great impact on Court Theatre and support both your personal and philanthropic objectives equally. As part of the University of Chicago, Court Theatre partners with the University’s Office of Gift Planning to best serve our generous donors.
A charitable gift annuity may appeal to you if you are interested in making a gift to Court and would like the dependability of a fixed annual income. In exchange for a gift of $10,000 or more in cash or securities, Court Theatre will provide a fixed, guaranteed income to you and/or your spouse for life.
A charitable remainder trust is another way to plan for your future and that of Court. A gift of $50,000 or more in cash, securities, or real estate allows you to establish a trust that will make variable payments to you and other income beneficiaries, if you wish, for life. The fact that payments from a charitable remainder trust have the potential to increase over time can serve as a useful hedge against inflation.
Making a bequest to Court is a simple way to leave a lasting legacy. Made with cash, securities, or real or personal property, a charitable bequest is fully deductible for estate tax purposes. You may designate a specific sum or asset, provide for a fixed dollar amount or gift a residuary of your estate to Court.
Designating Court Theatre as a beneficiary of a portion or all of your 401k, IRA or other retirement plan can be beneficial to your heirs as well as Court. Using a retirement account to make a gift to Court also frees up other assets that may not carry such burdensome tax consequences—such as cash and securities—to leave for children and other family members.
Thousands of companies and corporate foundations match the gifts of their employees to non-profit institutions such as Court Theatre. As a part of the University of Chicago, your gift to Court qualifies as a gift to higher education, which more companies match than any other type of charitable giving. Gifts of securities, in addition to gifts of cash, are also often eligible for matching.
Matching gift benefits can double, sometimes triple, the value of your gift, while supporting the same program(s) that you support, and are credited to you. Retirees, employee spouses, board members, and officers are included in some programs, so inquire about eligibility.
If your company has a matching gift program, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. Matching gift forms are most frequently found in Human Resources, but are increasingly available on company websites or other online formats.
If you have already sent your gift, it may not be too late to qualify for matching dollars this year. Please contact Erin Kelsey at (773) 834-0941 for more information.
