Shakespeare's Haunting Classic
Co-Directed by Anne Bogart and Darron L. West
Created and Performed by SITI Company
Adapted from the Play by William Shakespeare
Late at night in the guts of an abandoned theater, a company of actors gathers to rehearse Shakespeare’s Macbeth. They soon realize that they’re not alone. As they are drawn deeper into the Bard’s most magnetic play, the ghosts that have haunted the story since its inception hover and encroach. Director Darron L. West speaks passionately about the piece:
A great ghost story is best heard in the dark or by the shadows of flickering candle light. Darkness plays tricks on the mind and the ear; the smallest rattle will make our imagination churn. Macbeth—in my mind the ultimate ghost story. It is a séance for this company of actors who gather in the middle of the night to rehearse this great play. And for those who listen to them in the darkness of the theater, it is a reminder of the power of our own imagination.
